The Spiky Tinfoil Ball was an apology gift to Greg Heffley by Manny Heffley. It's made out of tinfoil crumbled into a ball with toothpicks sticking out of it where it appears in Rodrick Rules and the online book.

History[]

Rodrick Rules[]

It was said to be a gift to make up for Manny breaking Greg's video game console. Greg thought it looked dangerous, and was concerned that he would sit on it by mistake, so he tried to throw it away. Susan Heffley stopped Greg and told him that he will hurt Manny's feelings if he threw away his gift. When Rowley Jefferson visited Greg's house for a playdate, he accidentally sat on it, reminding Greg of the object and prompting him to throw it out while Susan was dealing with Rowley's injury. Greg reflected that even if Susan saw him throw away the ball while she was tending to Rowley, she wouldn't have stopped him anyway. [1]

Rodrick Rules (2011 film)[]

In the second film, when Greg and Rowley are trying to make a viral video, Rowley gives up and sits on Greg's bed but also sitting on the tinfoil ball and they upload the video of Rowley sitting on it to YouTube.

Online[]

In the online book it took Manny 20 minutes in total to make a gift for breaking Greg's Walkman instead of his video game system. [2]

When Rowley ends up sitting on it, Greg throws the thing in the toilet and flushes it away.[3]
