He was named Athlete of the Month for being the best player during the Phys Ed basketball unit and had a picture of him put up in the hallway with his last name and first initial, "P. Mudd", below it. Other kids quickly realized that "P. Mudd" sounded like 'pee mud' when said aloud and made fun of Preston for it.
The incident is noted by Greg Heffley as a precaution against being too good an athlete.
Preston isn't mentioned by name again, but makes possible further appearences
- On page 82 of of the first book a silhouetted character resembling Preston appears when Mr. Underwood is demonstrating wrestling holds
- In The Last Straw a boy resembling Preston is seen on page 94
In the movie Preston appears at the beginning when he says hi to Greg, who doesn't recognize him. A plaque with him on it can also be seen when kids are running away from Darren Walsh in a hallway.
- In the Popularity List, Preston appears at 153rd place, right above Rowley Jefferson .
- In the Spanish Version, Preston is called "P. Zonn" which sounds similar to 'pezón', the Spanish word for 'nipple'.
