Plainview's Most Talented (known as the Winter Talent Show in the books) is a talent show held in Rodrick Rules and in both the live-action and the animated adaptions.
History[]
Rodrick Rules[]
Rowley Jefferson was paired up with Scotty Douglas, but Greg was forced to fill in as Scotty's partner due to a prank gone wrong. Though Rodrick's band, Löded Diper, made the cut, Greg and Scotty, however, were the only act not to make it into the talent show.
With how many acts that were in the show, it ended up going on for much longer than it should've--to compensate for this, they eventually started running two acts at the same time to keep it moving. This ended up having mixed results, because some of the acts worked well together while others didn't. The last act was of Löded Diper, they were paired up with Harry Gilbertson ("Tyler Murphy" in the original online version). After the show as over, they handed out the awards, with Harry getting an award for "Best Musical Act" and Rowley's babysitter Leland being given the grand prize for his ventriloquism act.
During Rodrick's performance, Greg had refused to record, so Susan volunteered. Susan kept dancing when Rodrick's band played, and the recorder zoomed the camera at Susan. The video became famous as "Dancing Mom" all over the internet, which made Rodrick hide in his room until it all blew over.[1]
Rodrick Rules (2011 film)[]
In the film, Scotty and Rowley were able to perform in the talent show, but the former ran away out of stage fright. Greg ended up taking Scotty's place instead as a part of a deal with Susan to end Rodrick's punishment where he could not perform in the Talent Show. Like in the book, Susan also inadvertently steals the show during Rodrick's performance. It is unknown who won after the event. Greg was also the one who uploaded the "Dancing Mom" video, racking up views and likes, followed by Rodrick shouting out his anger towards his brother.

Online[]
In the online book, Rowley's replacement was due to the Big Wheel incident.[2]
Greg mentions there are 32 total acts with him and Scotty being the only ones to not qualify because their act was deemed “unprofessional” by Mrs. Norton.[3]

Trivia[]
- The talent show combined acts from the elementary school, the middle school, and the high school. This could mean that there were originally three separate talent shows for each of the schools which were eventually combined into one big one.
- Patty Farrell was in the show in all versions, but did different things: In the book, she tapdanced, in the 2011 film she sang, and in the 2022 film she played the piano. All of these are music related.
- Scotty was intended to be Rowley's assistant in the 2011 movie, but it was the other way around in the book. In the 2022 movie, Greg was intended to be Rowley's assistant.
