The Independent Study course was an experimental class where kids would work on an assignment without adult supervision during Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

History[]

Diary of a Wimpy Kid[]

Greg Heffley signs up for this class during third quarter as a replacement for Home Economics 2. (Greg originally wanted to do but was mocked for his sewing skills)

Mr. Darnell explained that it is a team assignment, and everyone receives the same grade when finished. Greg then realised that Ricky Fisher was in the same group, and he deemed him as a threat to their grade.

Their first assignment is to build a robot, which to everyone's shock Mr. Darnell, clarifies that they only needed to list out what the robot would do. Greg presents his list which consists of everyday routine such as brushing teeth and cleaning the dishes. Next group was two girls who suggested the robot should give dating advice and have 10 types of lip gloss. Their ideas were mocked by the boys, causing the separation between the two genders, by working in different parts of the room.

Someone suggested that the robot could say its name back to you, but someone quickly pointed out that the robot cannot be allowed to say swear words. The boys decided to come up a list of swear words that the robot shouldn't be able to say while the girls stood around talking on the other side of the room. Ricky Fisher then came up with twenty more swear words that no one else had heard before.

Before the bell, Mr. Darnell came back, saw the boys' paper, and cancelled Independent Study for them.[1]
