Frew is a child prodigy and Greg's partner in the Homework Buddies Program. He appears in Old School.

Personality[]

As Greg mentions, Frew is very intelligent, and it is hinted that he reads college textbooks and scientific journals for entertainment. Greg often leaves his homework to him, but he ends up in harder classes. Frew is a fast worker and can get many pages of homework done, and is shown.

Frew is forced to wake up every morning at 5 A.M. to study and cannot do normal things like play laser tag because his parents say it is "a waste of time". It is possible that he could have been making up a sob story as he appears to not mind his work.

History[]

Old School[]

As it is shown as before, he was Greg's Homework Buddy. When he and Greg met, he realized he is smart and could read scientific journals and college textbooks. Greg then suggests doing his homework for him, in return for harder homeworks and rewards like going to the Old-Timey Ice Cream Parlour. Frew also finishes work very fast.

Greg then meets up with Frew later on in the book, when the town was cleaning the park, they both decided to attempt to escape, along with Billy Rotner. The trio manages to outrun the Girl Scouts, but they get caught later as Susan had been tracking Greg with the pet tracker. They then scolded the trio, so then Frew explains the story, and he burst into tears. To get himself out, Greg manages to pass the blame to Billy, probably the fact that Billy got caught stealing a pack of sour gummy worms. He was never seen or mentioned again in the book.

Trivia[]

  • Since Frew isn't seen or mentioned again after Old School, it's possible that:
    • Either Frew or Greg were removed from or voluntarily left the Homework Buddies Program.
    • Greg and Frew were repaired with other students.
    • Greg opted not to mention Frew again out of fear of being caught.

  1. Greg Heffley mentions that Frew is in third grade, placing him at around 8 years old. However, due to Frew's apparent intelligence and small stature, it is likely he could have been placed ahead, meaning he could be even younger than 8.
