Box jellyfish are lethal, venomous jellyfish that can cause your heart to stop upon contact with them. They only appeared in The Getaway. Greg Heffley saw the box jellyfish in a show he mentioned called, "World's Most Venomous Creatures", and it was listed at the top one.
Manny found a box jellyfish while the family was snorkeling and brought it back with him. When the Heffley family came back to the Isla de Corales, none of them were feeling good after their cruise and decided to rest on the side of the pool, however the Director of Fun came through in a conga line, trying to convince them to join in. He kept circling around them, not understanding that they did not have the urge to participate in the activities, until he stopped cold when he spotted something inside Manny's bucket. Greg said that it looked like a clear plastic bag floating around in Manny's bucket, but the Director of Fun lifted the bucket to take a closer look. It turned out it to be a box jellyfish inside.
This freaked out the Director of Fun, causing him to jump, which tossed the box jellyfish into the pool. When the Director of Fun realized this, he ran to the nearest lifeguard, who started blowing her whistle, along with all the other lifeguards. Everyone frantically hurried out of the pool to get away from the venomous jellyfish. The Heffley family decided to leave due to the commotion.
Later, the pool was drained because the pool workers could not locate the box jellyfish, making everyone on the island infuriated with the Heffleys as the loss of the pool ruined everybody's vacation.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown how Manny got the box jellyfish without getting stung during snorkeling.
- The box jellyfish may not have been an actual box jellyfish, due to several hints suggesting that Isla de Corales is located in the Caribbean, and the fact that box jellyfish are native to Australia. If so, either Greg and the others misidentified it, or it was a factual error.
