The blanket was a gift from Aunt Dorothy given to the Heffley children, mentioned in The Meltdown.[1]
It was described by Greg to be particularly soft and heavy, just the way he likes it. After the Heffleys' vacation, they came home to find the blanket in a package on their front doorstep.
Instantly, Greg, Rodrick, and Manny began to fight over who got to use the blanket. Frustrated with her sons' fighting, Susan made a schedule for who got to use the blanket at what time, though the schedule was often strayed from by Rodrick, and Manny was double-dipping by using his own blanket as well.
After creating a twenty-five page manual for rules surrounding the blanket, Susan got fed up and took the blanket away from Greg, Rodrick, and Manny for herself.
